50 Engagement Session Ideas to Start the New Year

From fun and playful to serene and romantic these couples totally nailed their 2019 engagement sessions and have plenty of ideas for all you newly engaged couples. 2020 is going to be grand!

A couple of things to consider when planning your engagement session:

Why have an engagement session?: I tell my clients all then time - you’re not doing an engagement session for the images - they’re the bonus - but having an engagement session is for THE EXPERIENCE. Over the last twelve years I have found that couples that have the opportunity to be photographed before their wedding are more relaxed on their wedding day. Working together builds trust and a relationship and that is invaluable. The engagement session images also give us the opportunity to discuss the photos they love and why - and that helps me prepare to shoot their wedding for their preferences. That preparation is so helpful!

Location: Couples often pick a location that means something to them - whether it’s where they met, had their first date, favorite hang out spots, or even the location where they’ll get married. Some ideas below include: a coffee tour around Detroit, photos at Piquette Plant to recreate a photo of the bride’s grandparents, a walk around the campus where they met, or a stroll in their favorite park.

Furry Friends: We love including furry friends, you’ll see a few below and we LOVE capturing them!

Poses: I make sure that you look your BEST for your engagement session. That means knowing all the best angles, discussing wardrobe beforehand if you have questions, and giving you direction. With that being said - being natural in your photos is our number one goal. You look at your partner and you.can’t.help.but.smile. Right?! We will have you walk, sit and chat, sip coffee together and throughout the session let you know if anything looks out of place or awkward. Over the years we have photographed hundreds of couples and we know you want to look your best - we do too!
