a Love for the black and white photograph

There are many descriptive words for black and white photography. TIMELESS first comes to my mind. There is something about a black and white photograph that transcends time. The colors, the styles of the clothes - those things that can date a photograph are missing. It's magical. In a sense it strips all of the distractions away and makes you relate on a deeper level - the emotion, the heart of a photograph, divine light shines through.

It is my intense love for black and white photography that has lead me for more than 10 years to provide a black and white copy of their original color digital negatives.

Why?

All of my clients receive digital negatives - full high-resolution edited files (jpegs) that they have permission to print on their own, for a lifetime. Do you know what happens when you send a color jpeg to the lab to be printed in black and white? They simply (and I might mean stupidly) remove the color. Sure, easy enough for them - de-saturate the color and boom you have "colorless". Black and white fine art images, however deserve a look at all on their own, for example when I edit black and white images I usually bump contrast and increase blacks/shadows. They are processed different than a color photograph.
